Lorsque la <strong>densit\u00e9 de v\u00e9hicules<\/strong> d\u00e9passe un seuil critique \u2014 environ <strong>1 500 v\u00e9hicules par heure et par voie<\/strong> \u2014 la route ne peut plus absorber davantage de trafic, m\u00eame si la vitesse augmente.<\/p>\n<p>Contrairement \u00e0 une id\u00e9e re\u00e7ue, <strong>rouler plus vite ne permet pas de fluidifier le trafic<\/strong>. En effet, plus la vitesse est \u00e9lev\u00e9e, plus les conducteurs doivent <strong>respecter une distance de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 importante<\/strong>, ce qui r\u00e9duit le nombre de v\u00e9hicules pouvant circuler simultan\u00e9ment.<\/p>\n<p>R\u00e9sultat : un ralentissement brutal d\u2019un v\u00e9hicule provoque une <strong>r\u00e9action en cha\u00eene<\/strong>, chaque conducteur freinant \u00e0 son tour. C\u2019est le fameux <strong>effet \u00ab\u00a0accord\u00e9on\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong> qui g\u00e9n\u00e8re les bouchons.<\/p>\n<h3>L\u2019embouteillage caus\u00e9 par un incident<\/h3>\n<p>Un accident, un v\u00e9hicule en panne, des travaux ou m\u00eame une voie neutralis\u00e9e\u2026 D\u00e8s qu\u2019un \u00e9v\u00e9nement r\u00e9duit la capacit\u00e9 d\u2019absorption d\u2019une route, <strong>la demande exc\u00e8de l\u2019offre<\/strong>, et l\u2019embouteillage se forme.<\/p>\n<p>Ce type de bouchon est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement temporaire, mais peut provoquer de <strong>fortes perturbations<\/strong>, notamment aux heures de pointe.<\/p>\n<h3>Le bouchon de curiosit\u00e9<\/h3>\n<p>Enfin, le bouchon \u00ab de curiosite\u0301 \u00bb est celui qui survient sur une voie sans proble\u0301matique apparente. Par exemple, il peut survenir lorsqu\u2019un e\u0301ve\u0301nement remarquable survient de l\u2019autre c\u00f4te\u0301 des glissi\u00e8res et que chaque conducteur a le re\u0301flexe de ralentir pour \u00ab <strong>observer<\/strong> \u00bb, d\u2019o\u00f9 le nom de curiosite\u0301.
